WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is about to lock horns with Lamont Roach Jr. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Ahead of the fight, however, YouTube star turned professional boxer Jake Paul has jumped into the conversation, revealing his shocking take on Gervonta Davis. So, what did he say?

You see, while Paul and Davis aren’t in the same league, Davis’ fight tonight pushed ‘The Problem Child’ to issue a bittersweet statement towards the Baltimore native. Paul, of course,  has been looking for an opponent since his fight against Mike Tyson last year. While Canelo Alvarez was in talks with the YouTuber for a fight, things didn’t quite work out well for Paul. Canelo, instead, signed a four-fight deal with the Riyadh Season to fight William Scull and Terence Crawford later this year. Regardless, with hours left in the Davis vs. Roach fight, Paul hopped on X to praise Davis for his work in the ring and outside of it but claimed he would destroy the Baltimore native in a fight.

“Gervonta has my respect. Inside the ring, he comes to fight. 1 of the top 5 in the world right now,” Paul wrote on X. “Outside the ring, he is standing on his own & representing America. I f**k with it. I would destroy him in the ring given the size. But I f**k with what he represents. Tuning in tonight.”

However, this isn’t the first time these two fighters were mentioned in the same conversation.

Jake Paul once responded to Gervonta Davis’ fight call-out

Last year, Jake Paul didn’t hold back when responding to Gervonta Davis’ surprise fight call-out. After his victory over 58-year-old Mike Tyson, Paul found himself in the spotlight, with several champions, including the undefeated WBA lightweight champion, calling him out. Paul fired back at Davis on Twitter, taking a shot at both him and his former mentor, Floyd Mayweather.

“Floyd’s little son calling me out?… Come on little Tank [Davis], you know better,” Paul wrote. He also criticized Davis for allegedly downplaying women’s boxing, “I saw you pretend like you didn’t know who Amanda Serrano & Katie Taylor are. Do better & maybe one day I will give you a platform to shine again after that budget basic press conference you just had.”

Despite the exchange, a fight is highly unlikely due to the significant weight difference.

That said, Jake Paul never misses a chance to steal the spotlight—even when the Davis vs. Roach fight has nothing to do with him. Do you think Paul can beat Davis in a fight?
