In 2021, boxing fans have witnessed rivalries between young guns and the veterans of the sport. But one such rivalry that shook everyone was the beef between the YouTube boxing star, Jake Paul, and boxing great, Floyd Mayweather.

The rift between these two began a few months back when ‘The Problem Child’s elder brother, Logan Paul, was on the brink of facing ‘Pretty Boy’ in an exhibition.

Mayweather and Jake Paul entered a brawl at a press conference, and the feud between these two has only grown since then. The 24-year-old has taken wild verbal digs at ‘TBE’ and has challenged him to a pro-boxing bout several times.

In his exclusive conversation with USA TODAY Sports, Paul again opened up on a potential bout with Mayweather.

He said, “He, I think realized with fighting my brother, that we’re not to be messed with. He said he would only fight me if I cut down to 154 pounds, which is physically impossible. And he don’t want that smoke, man.’’ 

“But right now my focus is doing real, professional fights. I’m not trying to do any exhibitions. So if he wants to do a real pro fight at a real weight, I’m down. But I don’t want to do money fights with an old guy.” 

“He needs me more than I need him.’’

Paul, who has been making steady statements in the professional boxing circuit, is only taking up fights that add to his professional resume. As Mayweather has no intention of boxing professionally, it seems unlikely that he will fight Paul.

‘The Problem Child’ in his above interview clearly asserted that Mayweather wants him to cut an enormous amount of weight in order to fight him.

As Paul is a natural cruiserweight, it may be tough for him to cut down to super welterweight or middleweight. However, if ‘TBE’ decides to take on Paul in an exhibition without any weight alterations, then this fight might come to life.

Given where the men are, it doesn’t seem likely at this point. However, it’ll be interesting to see what happens between this pair in the coming few months.
