Riding on a 4-fight win streak, Jake Paul is prepared to put on a show under the big lights against Mike Tyson this Friday night. While the Problem Child’s boxing credentials shine with ten wins, seven coming via knockouts, his otherwise impressive resume is marred by a single blemish: a loss to Tommy Fury in February 2023. Paul suffered a narrow split-decision loss to Fury, with one judge scoring in his favor (75-74) and two judges siding with the British star (76-73).

Although the Ohio native landed a flash knockdown with a counter jab in the final round, Fury’s corner disputed the call, insisting it was a slip. Despite the contentious decision, the 27-year-old star remains optimistic about winning the rematch rematch. However, the burning question remains: Will the rematch ever happen?

Is Tommy Fury outpricing himself?

Financial disputes continue to stall the Tommy Fury vs. Jake Paul rematch negotiations. According to Team Paul, Fury’s inflated monetary demands are the main stumbling block, casting doubt on the fight’s feasibility. And recently, El Gallo’s former boxing coach highlighted the same in an interview with The Sun.

BJ Flores, former boxer-turned-trainer, stated: “Tommy is unreasonable with the money, and he’s unreasonable with what he is worth. So, I don’t feel like it’s mandatory for Jake to fight Tommy again before anybody else. If it made sense business-wise, you have not, and no, Tommy is not gonna get an opportunity like that with anybody else in the world. Trust me. That’ll never come Tommy’s way again.”

Regardless, Flores revealed the only way a rematch is possible, “So, if he’s reasonable on the money and reasonable on the price, yeah, you can fight again.”

Despite the anticipation, Paul’s former coach later expressed skepticism about the rematch ever coming to fruition. This news will likely dampen the spirits of fans hoping to see the two rivals face off again.

Jake Paul does not need Fury

After their fight in February 2023, Jake Paul has been active inside the ring. Quickly coming back to the win column by beating Nate Diaz, El Gallo went on a 3-fight knockout streak against Andre August, Ryan Bourland, and Mike Perry. And now, he is gearing up for the biggest night of his life against Mike Tyson. Meanwhile, Tommy Fury only had one fight against KSI in October 2023, claiming a controversial decision victory.

Highlighting Fury’s lack of activity, Flores expressed that the Problem Child does not need to have a rematch. “But he thinks, you know, is delusional kind of where he’s at, what he’s worth on the fight. I don’t think Jake needs him. Jake can keep going. And in my mind, what has Tommy done since then and what has Jake done since then, and what’s Jake going to be doing Friday night [fight vs. Mike Tyson]?”

Additionally, he questioned Fury’s work ethic, comparing it with what the Ohio native has been doing since their fight. “I haven’t really seen Tommy fired. Like, he hasn’t in almost a year. I have seen him on like news articles and some things like that, but nothing with boxing. So, I’m not sure. I don’t think he’s been working like Jake has. He has had his baby and all that. So, maybe he’s been training every day, maybe I’m wrong. But I don’t think he has been working like Jake has,” he added.

While the possibility of the rematch looks grim, Jake Paul fans can still expect several entertaining nights in the future. With the Mike Tyson fight this weekend, the Problem Child has already revealed he would possibly fight Neeraj Goyat next. So, ring activity is not a question when it comes to El Gallo. However, a win in a potential Tommy Fury rematch will help him move on with his boxing career with a clean slate.
