Last week at the Michelob Ultra Arena, the fight against Teofimo Lopez did not turn out the way Jamaine Ortiz wanted. If the public consensus is to be believed, it was a robbery! After twelve rounds of chasing around Ortiz, failing to land any significant shots on him, Lopez was awarded the unanimous decision win! And Oscar De La Hoya agrees!

Hours after the fight ended, the head of Golden Boy Promotions wrote, “8-4 Teo” on X (formerly Twitter). However, this seems to have rubbed the wrong way with wounded Ortiz, who claimed he would file a lawsuit because of the loss. So, he turned to the social media platform today, reminding Oscar of his $64 million loss to Felix Trinidad.

Back in 1999, De La Hoya took on Trinidad in an IBF, WBC welterweight title fight! It was the most hyped fight since Sugar Ray Leonard took on Thomas Hearns in the welterweight division. However, it failed to live up to expectations despite producing 1.25 million pay-per-view buys. Oscar lost the bout via majority decision, recording his first career loss.

So, after Oscar revealed his scorecard, Ortiz wrote, “[Oscar De La Hoya] how [are] you [going to] score the fight for Teo when you fought the same way against Trinidad?” It’s worth mentioning that Ortiz believes he absolutely should have won the bout. In an interview with Tha Boxing Voice, he claimed, “They seen me give him a boxing clinic. He couldn’t touch me. He couldn’t land not one of his big shots on me.” What’s more, even Tim Bradley agrees with Jamaine Ortiz, unlike De la Hoya.

Tim Bradley ropes in Shakur Stevenson

Speaking to Pro Box TV on 13 February, the ESPN analyst did not hold back his criticism of the judges. “Man, I’m still pi**ed off. I’ve been pi**ed off all weekend long. Serious[ly], you can talk to my colleagues. I’ve been pi**ed off about that decision,” said Bradley. He saw the results of the fight as “highway robbery in Las Vegas.” Later on, he brought up the fight between Shakur Stevenson and Edwin De Los Santos, a fight marred with criticism for Stevenson.

“Shakur Stevenson-De Santos similar fight less connects less punches landed, and guess who got the decision, Shakur Stevenson,” said Bradley. He highlighted that just like De Los Santos, Lopez came forward and was frustrated about not landing anything. However, in Lopez’s case, he was given the victory, so Bradley condemned the judges, stating, “shame shame shame on Vegas judges.”

Despite putting on a clinic, Jamaine Ortiz had to leave the stadium with red on his record, something Oscar De La Hoya agreed with. However, after Tim Bradley highlighted the disparity in judging the Ortiz-Lopez and Stevenson-De Los Santos fights, the question is, was Lopez destined to win the fight regardless of what happened during the bout? What do you think? Who won the fight, Lopez or Ortiz?

One take at a time

The first time boxing captured my attention, it was because of a line I heard in the film 'Rocky Balboa', a film surrounding boxing. The line went like this, "But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
