The WBO super-lightweight champion, Jamel Herring, is set to defend his title against Carl Frampton on February 27. This will mark his third title defense after he successfully defended it in 2019 and 2020. Post this fight, Herring has exuberant plans of fighting for the unified title. He is also looking to box his friend and teammate, Joseph Diaz.

Talking to Showbizz The Adult, ‘Semper Fi’ unveiled his notions on why he wants to fight ‘Jo Jo’ Diaz.

My teammate ‘Jo Jo’ Diaz is also in the same weight division, but we have that mutual respect and that’s a big fight that people want to make. I have no, we both have no issue making that fight.”

“That’s just the competitive nature of boxing,” said Herring.

‘Jo Jo’ and Herring have trained together for many years. ‘Semper Fi’ believes it’s the fight that fans want to see and he is keen on delivering it. More than anyone else, Herring and Diaz themselves are eager to compete and put on a show at the 130-pound division.

Herring bagged the WBO title back in 2019 after defeating Masayuki Ito with a unanimous decision. Ever since then, he hasn’t looked back. The 35-year-old has only improved and eyes a bigger challenge fight by fight. This is predominantly why he’s rooting for a matchup with his teammate and the former IBF super-featherweight champion.

This statement will have piqued the interest of fans all over who will be keen to see it booked soon.

Jamel Herring vs Joseph Diaz on the cards for 2021?

Jamel Herring already has a fight lined up for February 27. His friend, ‘Jo Jo’, fought last night against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov, wherein the fight ended in an abrupt draw. However, as he missed weight, Diaz had to vacate his belt. For now, the South El Monte native will have his eyes set on reclaiming the strap.

If he rematches and gets past Rakhimov, he’ll signify his place atop the super-featherweight roster. Furthermore, his bout with Herring might get even more interesting, as there’ll be two titles on the line. Moreover, a fight between them will be exciting as they will know each other’s styles inside out.
