Jermell Charlo is one of the best super-welterweights in the world. The 30-year-old has reached the summit of the division and is a unified champion. However, ‘Iron Man’ has the opportunity to add to his collection when he faces Brian Castano.

The American champion has been calling for a big fight for a while. Despite being the unified champion, Charlo is often under-appreciated by boxing fans. However, the upcoming fight against Castano will allow him to prove his worth.

La Nacion, an Argentinian newspaper, was the first to report the news and BoxingScene was quick to catch onto it. They reported that Charlo and Castano had agreed to a unification bout. The fight will be on Showtime rather than PBC and it will not be a PPV event. The potential timeline for the bout is reported to be June or July.

This will the second straight unification bout for the 34-1 American boxer. He is coming off an impressive knockout victory over Jeison Rosario in September. Thus, it is clear that the American is not messing about with his choice of opponents.

Who is Brian Castano, and why is Jermell Charlo fighting him?

Despite the agreement between the two fighters, there is only a tentative confirmation on the venue and date. It could be in Charlo’s hometown of Houston. Either way, Charlo will look to add another belt to his collection. But who is Brian Castano?

Castano may not be a household name among fans. However, the Argentine is an established champion in the sport. He holds the WBO super-welterweight belt and has previously held the WBA title. Therefore, he knows what it takes to fight on the big stage.

In addition, the Argentine is unbeaten in his 18 fights with 17 victories and a solitary draw. Therefore, if Charlo has to defend his belt, he will have to inflict a first career loss on Castano.

Thus, despite not being a PPV event, this bout will be an exciting clash between two champions, with the winner making a huge statement to the entire division.
