Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury is set to be the biggest heavyweight fight of the modern boxing era, and their promotions are doing everything possible to ensure that it comes to fruition. Not just Top Rank and Matchroom, but even the boxing organizations are looking to iron out all the possible stuff for this fight. The WBO is looking to align Joe Joyce with Oleksandr Usyk for the interim title instead of giving the latter a title shot.
The Ukrainian boxer is a supposed threat to this fight, as he’s keen on challenging Anthony Joshua for the WBO heavyweight title. But this concern may not be an issue, as Joyce has already expressed his willingness to take on Usyk.
Michael Benson reported this and took it to his official Twitter handle.
Joyce’s promoter, Frank Warren, is already in talks to line up Usyk vs Joyce for the WBO interim belt. If this fight happens, it can clear out the way for Joshua vs Fury.
Usyk is mandatory and may not be keen on a fight before he boxes for the belt given what happened to Dillian Whyte, who was a WBC mandatory challenger.
The aforementioned alternative can work significantly well for both the fights. Fans will get to see the enthralling clash between the British heavyweight legends as well as an action-packed bout between Usyk and Joyce. The bout will have a lot on the line for Usyk, but for Joyce will have everything to gain.
The ‘Juggernaut’ beat Daniel Dubois in his last fight, fair and square. This fight signified his run in the big men’s division and rolled him out as the best heavyweight prospect from the UK at present. However, a fight with Oleksandr Usyk is a bigger pot of gold for the British boxer.
Joyce knows that a win against the former cruiserweight champion will see him raise his stock in a big way.
If this fight is booked, the ‘Juggernaut’ will look to employ his best skill sets against Usyk in the boxing ring. A win over him can put the British boxer on top for the WBO gold. It will be interesting to see how things play out in the next coming days.
On a scale of 1-10, how much will you rate the potential Usyk vs Joyce matchup? Does Joyce possess the audacity to knock the Ukrainian boxer out?
