Undisputed super lightweight champion Josh Taylor is having a great tenure in the 140 lbs division, beating every A-listed adversary on his way to the top. However, he can soon move up to the higher category, aiming at the 147 lbs titles. That is clearly something which the ‘Tartan Tornado’ wants to achieve but isn’t rushing towards that goal right away.

He believes the super lightweight division can still fetch him some top-tier matchups, including the one against Jack Catterall which will happen on February 26 in Glasgow. However, Taylor has also eyed a possible move to 147 lbs after he is done at 140.

In an interaction with Boxing Social, Taylor said, “I want to win more world titles and the only way to do that is moving up to 147 and hopefully challenge the best fighters up there at some point in the future. That’s further down the line. That’s bigger goals and ambitions.”

The welterweight division is currently blooming with undefeated champions like Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. As Taylor has envisioned himself matching up against the best at 147 lbs, Crawford and Spence Jr. clearly make it to his radar. Thus, Josh Taylor’s entry into the welterweight run can produce some of the best fights in recent years.

However, Crawford can also shift divisions shortly and that will put a dent in Taylor’s plans of facing the best welterweights. But Yordenis Ugas and several more contenders have popped up into the major scene, who won’t let the division run out of A-listers. Thus, Josh Taylor can continue outlining his plans for the future.

To make a successful transition to 147 lbs, Taylor cannot afford to lose his unbeaten record at 140. While many people thought Jose Ramirez would end Josh Taylor’s run, a very different scenario emerged when the two locked horns in an undisputed title fight. Taylor put his hands on all the titles at super lightweight and will now defend them all against Jack Catterall.
