Jack Catterall and Josh Taylor will meet in the ring for a second time on 24 April at First Direct Arena, Leeds. And British boxing fans can’t be happier about the all-English fight. Meanwhile, during an interview yesterday, Eddie Hearn, Catterall’s promoter, revealed some more great news for the English fans. 

This isn’t the first time Taylor and Catterall’s rematch has grabbed the headlines. The duo nearly got into an all-out brawl during Monday’s Edinburgh press conference. The hostile face-off saw Caterall grabbing Taylor’s throat after the latter had playfully touched Caterall’s chest. If that wasn’t enough of a reason for people to tune in, the head of Matchroom Boxing’s announcement should convince them. 

Eddie Hearn claims the Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall rematch will be non-PPV

Speaking to Boxing King Media after the press conference in Edinburgh, Hearn revealed he fought tooth and nail to make the fight a non-pay-per-view event for DAZN’s subscribers. “I said to DAZN, ‘I want you to do this fight on non-pay-per-view.’ They say, ‘How much is it going to cost us?’ I say this much,’” Hearn revealed. 

He also added that several broadcasters wanted to make the fight a pay-per-view event. ‘“Look, they got these offers. Do you want to pay or not?’ And they went, ‘Yes, we will, we feel like this is the kind of fight we need to deliver for our subscribers – non-pay-per-view,’” said Hearn. He concluded by announcing that “you don’t have to pay: pay-per-view for this fight.” The announcement aside, the heat did not die down following the physical altercation on Monday!

The ‘The Tartan Tornado’ on the fight against ‘El Gato’

Josh Taylor last appeared in the ring against Teofimo Lopez in June last year, losing the fight via unanimous decision. He was expected to move on to the welterweight division following his loss, but a rematch with his old rival seemed a tad bit more irresistible. So, during the press conference, Taylor didn’t hold back from firing shots at ‘El Gato.’

“I don’t like this guy. I can’t wait to smash his brains in. What little brains he’s got,” Taylor told the reporters. “It’s kind of a crossroads fight. My last two fights haven’t been great – I’ve got a point to prove. I need to be back to my best and win this fight to keep my career on the go. It’s a big fight,” he continued. Their initial encounter, back in February 2022, ended in a controversial UD win for Taylor. So, their rematch has been a long-awaited spectacle.

With a spicy start to their eventual encounter in the ring on 27 April, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has made things even more enticing for the fans. However, no one can tell whether history will repeat itself when Jack Catterall and Josh Taylor meet in the ring again.
