Canelo Alvarez poleaxed Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for all 12-rounds when the pair met in a super middleweight collision back in 2017. Both men went on to different routes from there. Alvarez is currently the undisputed super-middleweight champion, aiming for a potential move to the higher weight classes.

Meanwhile, Chavez Jr. has gone 3-3 since his loss to Alvarez and is nowhere close to the world championship. However, the 35-year-old believes he can topple Canelo Alvarez in a rematch if they meet in a new weight class, and he seemed quite confident with his statements.

In an exclusive IG Live session, he said, “If Canelo fights me in the weight he is gonna fight Makabu (200 lbs), it’s a very difficult fight for him. Canelo is very fast and he is very active right now.”

Having lost to Anderson Silva in June 2021, Chavez Jr. is not in a position to tout his superiority over Alvarez, who is on a flawless run right now. However, Chavez Jr. is a former world champion and holds a glittery pro-resume of 53-6-1. So, he clearly falls in the loop of A-listers. A world championship shot is still miles away from his radar. But the Mexican prodigy can bag lucrative offers.

Chavez Jr. is in talks to meet ‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul in 2022 and can possibly spin one of the biggest pay-checks of his combat career. While the matchup will be a massive up-gradation for Paul, it will only be a money-grabbing factor for Chavez Jr. Well, the Mexican star is in a position to do so as Jake Paul seems to be a safer option than Canelo Alvarez for him.

Will Canelo Alvarez be intrigued to rematch Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.?

Already a four-division world champion, Canelo Alvarez is looking for new heights of success now and Chavez Jr. won’t fetch anything extra to his legacy. Besides, Alvarez recalls his original scrap against JCC as “easy”. He didn’t struggle to take out his Mexican rival and Alvarez shall not look at the matchup again.
