“I’m gonna go home. Spend time with my family…Play princess and makeup with my daughter,” said Caleb Plant happily while speaking to DAZN reporter Large Barstool after giving Trevor McCumby his first career loss in September last year. Although he had been a major fan favorite, coming back from an 18-month layoff after losing to David Benavidez was something that could’ve complicated things for him. Still, Plant secured a technical knockout victory in the ninth round, clinching the WBA interim super middleweight title.

As far as the super middleweight division is concerned, Sweethands did have his shot at unifying the 168-pound weight class when he fought the divisional king Canelo Alvarez in November 2021. Sadly, that didn’t work out for him, and he lost his IBF belt, too. But guess what? Now that he is just five days away from facing Jose Armando Resendiz in Las Vegas, the family time he had after becoming hopefully the mandatory challenger for Canelo seems to have recharged him for reaching higher feats. And he hasn’t been shy about the fueled motivation.

A few hours ago, Boxing n BBQ on X posted a collage of four pictures on their handle. Fans could see the 32-year-old’s close-to-the-heart moments with his family. Aside from an inside-ring picture where he was kissing his red and golden IBF belt, there were three spots dedicated to his family. One of them was an old picture of him with his younger sister, Madeline, standing beside a trailer, which was their home. In another one, Plant can be seen holding his now two-year-old daughter, Charly Lynn Plant, while visiting the grave of his late firstborn, Alia.

The caption of Boxing n BBQ’s post echoed this very sentiment: “‘For me, boxing has always been bigger than, well, boxing.'” “Caleb Pant headlines this week and he is a perfect example of how boxing is bigger than boxing. If you don’t know his story it’s worth a little research🫡🔥,” the rest of the post read. So, it looks like the owner of that account is also a fan of Plant. And not just for the boxer’s skills inside the ring. But the hardships, struggles, and subsequent successes he’s seen in life. That is something that brings the fans closer to their favorite athletes—being able to relate to them. What was more, the 32-year-old replied to this post with a three-word response: Just getting started.

So, it is clear that Caleb Plant has some big moves planned once he is done with the Resendiz bout. This will be his first title defense after winning the interim champion status with WBA, and after successfully keeping it with himself, he would be able to challenge Canelo for a shot at all the titles once again. For now, he seems to be welcoming a new member into his family while staying focused on fighting his Mexican opponent in just a few days.

This soft expression from one of the toughest dads in the world came a day after he’d shared some family pictures with his wife Jordan Plant and daughter Charly. It was Jordan’s baby shower, where she wore a beautiful blue dress to reveal that it’s going to be a little baby boy for the duo’s second child.

Balancing grief, joy, and his boxing comeback, Caleb Plant’s family life fuels his motivation. As the 32-year-old steps into the ring against Resendiz, his first Interim title defense looms large. A victory could solidify his status as Canelo Alvarez’s mandatory challenger, setting the stage for a rematch. And we, for one, are rooting for his victory, are we not?
