In a world where social media has given people a platform to voice their opinions and thoughts, there are some who choose to use it in a negative and hurtful way. IBF Flyweight champion Sunny Edwards was recently the target of such hateful comments from a fan who wished death upon the boxer. However, the British boxer refused to let the comment go unchallenged and gave a fitting reply.

Edwards is known for his active presence on social media platforms where he often interacts with fans and followers. Moreover, he also frequently responds to their comments and queries, also offering insights into his personal life. However, this also means that he sometimes receives negative or abusive messages which he handles with a mixture of humor and firmness. This was exactly what he did with the fan who took things too far.

Sunny Edwards Claps Back at Troll for Disturbing Death Wish in a Tweet

The incident occurred on Twitter, where a user named @glamguignol revealed that he wanted Edwards to die in the boxing ring this year. “The one wish that I have for boxing in 2023 is for Sunny Edwards to die in the boxing ring. I would absolutely get off from witnessing that.” he wrote.

The comment, which was clearly meant to be hurtful warranted a response from the champion who took it in a joking manner. Edwards responded to the comment with a simple yet powerful statement: “Keep me outta your sick s**ual fantasies” he wrote.

The incident once again brings to light the issue of online harassment, particularly in the world of sports. Despite the many benefits that social media provides for athletes to connect with fans, it also exposes them to a barrage of negativity and hostility. Moreover, this is not the first time the champ has dealt with trolls, even to the extent of sparring with one who traveled 200 miles to meet him.

The time Edwards sparred with a troll who traveled 200 miles

Back in 2022, Edwards was confronted by a Twitter user Fab Tang who spent £110 to travel 200 miles to the champion’s Sheffield gym, to threaten the flyweight star. Moreover, the champion invited the troll in for a sparring session which he filmed and streamed online. Naturally, Edwards got the better of the troll who quit after just two rounds.

I didn’t even hurt him really, I didn’t even put him down. If I actually set about him he would have been on the floor crying. He could barely stand up at the end. I was feeding my kids and I saw some tweets from a train station in Lincoln. Then I saw a picture of himself outside my gym and then he said ‘I have £50 for people who will give me Sunny’s home address” he said explaining the situation to Mirror fighting.
