Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has hit back at critics in his latest interview. The famous promoter has come under some backlash for charging a lot of money for the Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev PPV. The two heavyweights will fight on December 12 on a card that will cost viewers £24.95. Many have since deemed this price tag unreasonable.

However, Eddie Hearn is having none of it. The Englishman has defended his decision speaking to iFL TV; and said, “We’ve got no fans, and we’ve got 70,000 people at Tottenham Hotspur that are no longer coming. So, we just decided to keep the pay-per-view price the same price as it was for his [Joshua] last fight.”

This suggests that he is despite no fans, Hearn is keeping the PPV price exactly the same.

He took a swipe at the Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr event as well, and called Anthony Joshua the biggest star in boxing. He said, “He’s the biggest star in world boxing, and next weekend if you really want, you can pay 20 quid to watch an exhibition with Mike Tyson and Roy Jones”.

Hearn then pointed out that Pulev is a fighter with the same ability as Any Ruiz Jr  . This was Joshua’s last fight for which fans paid the same amount that they will have to this time.

He said, “Pulev is exactly the same ability as Andy Ruiz. When we first did the Andy Ruiz fight, I was getting totally abused by everyone, saying this is a ‘dog s*** fight,’ and he knocked out Anthony Joshua.”

He added, “He’s exactly at the same level. In fact, he’s more accomplished than Andy Ruiz.”

What can we expect from Eddie Hearn and the Anthony Joshua Vs Kubrat Pulev event?

The PPV is relatively high for a British fight. However, when you consider that a fight like Gervonta Davis vs Leo Santa Cruz cost $74.99, it gives you a better perspective. Joshua is one of the biggest names in the sport and will surely draw global audiences.

In a situation where all revenue from the venue is no longer there, it leaves the company with little option. After this interview, many will see the promoter’s side of things and understand the pricing. Either way, fans will not want to miss this fight.
