There’s an entire month before WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. attempts to do what 30 other boxers could not—defeat WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis. However, fans seem to have already given up hope on the 29-year-old Washington native, which just became even more apparent after a sparring video came to light.

The fight itself has seen several setbacks already! Initially, the fight was supposed to happen in December but got pushed to January. Now, March 1st seems to be the penciled-in date for the bout in Brooklyn, New York. Regardless, even after all this time, Roach Jr. has failed to convince people that he even stands a chance against Davis.

Lamont Roach Jr. is dropping sparring partners

Earlier today, Roach shared a video on YouTube of his time in training camp. Midway through the video, a few clips were stitched together, showcasing Roach’s sparring sessions with a handful of opponents. Roach effortlessly landed devastating shots to down his opponents as he prepared for his big night in March.

Interestingly, Davis and Roach have fought twice already during their run in the amateurs. Reportedly, the Baltimore native won both fights, which has done little to convince fans in Roach’s favor. Nonetheless, this clip was later picked up by ‘Pound4Pound’ and they shared it on X, asking their followers whether Roach stands a chance against Davis.

Needless to say, at this point, despite Roach performing the clips, the boxing public was not on board with Roach.

Fans say Gervonta Davis has nothing to worry about

Lamont Roach Jr. has 25 wins under his belt, but a mere 10 he has won via knockouts. So, convincing anyone he could knock out Davis with the sparring footage would be difficult. One user claimed the footage did the exact opposite of convincing him. “Footage like this is always a red flag. Who are they trying to convince by releasing this?” the user asked. However, it’s not outlandish to see fighters release sparring footage before their fights to build hype.

Another user outright asked the Roach corner to stop trying. “STOP IT! There’s a reason Tank ducked his whole weight class and went to 130lbs again; go figure,” the user commented. Notably, Davis has faced criticism for avoiding a fight against fellow lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.

The next user condemned Roach for bragging about dropping his sparring partners. “There’s zero point in bragging about hurting your sparring partners, they’re not there to KO Roach. Tank by round 5,” the user wrote. Sparring is mostly about enhancing abilities, so fighters rarely put 100% power during sparring.

Someone else accused Roach of hiring paid actors instead of real-world fighters. “N**** hired paid actors to build up his confidence. He got almost 30 fights with 10 knockouts. He ain’t really putting s**t to sleep 😂😂😂,” commented the user. In fact, Roach has one of the worst knockout rates out there, with 40%.

Meanwhile, this user hoped Roach could knockout Gervonta Davis, but acknowledged the reality. “I’d love to see him end Gervonta’s career and drop his stock but that’s highly unlikely,” the user lamented. That may never happen unless Davis decides to take fights on his level.

That said, people still don’t think Lamont Roach Jr. could defeat Gervonta Davis. Even with his sparring clips, fans think to see it as nothing more than a “red flag.” But what do you think? Can Roach replicate these knockdowns during the Davis fight?
