With each passing day, the blockbuster clash of Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford is getting closer to becoming a reality. While several reports are claiming that the fight is all but confirmed, Canelo Alvarez himself put it in doubt. In a conversation on the Ring Magazine podcast, the Guadalajara native talked about the potential clash and how it is still not a done deal.

Canelo Alvarez still in doubt

During ‘The Ring Podcast’ with Mike Coppinger, the 62-2 boxer talked about his plans to stay at 168 lbs for a while before moving up. He also cleared the air surrounding his year-old statement where he dismissed Bud’s career and claimed that the latter has only faced one good opponent. Canelo then acknowledged Terence Crawford’s ability in the ring.

While his statement has increased the hype for the fight, he is still unsure about it happening for sure. “Maybe we will see that fight. Maybe,” revealed Canelo Alvarez before he acknowledged fan’s worst fears. “We don’t know yet,” claimed the doubtful Guadalajara native, stating that negotiations are still ongoing.

However, it looks like HE Alalshikh is hell-bent on making this fight a reality. According to the reports, he is ready to give Canelo Alvarez an absurd amount of money which might make him the highest-paid boxer under the Riyadh Season banner.

Most Expensive fight of the decade

A few days ago, ‘Brunch Boxing’ reported that the Mexican champion might earn 9 figures for the Terence Crawford fight. If true, he will become the third boxer under the Riyadh Season banner to earn more than $100 million in a year after Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

While the exact amount is still under wraps, prominent ‘X’ user ‘Ray Jackson’ added fire to the reports. The user claimed that Canelo is going to earn $150 million guaranteed for the fight, a payday that he has been chasing since last year. It now looks like His Excellency is ready to fulfill them. It will make him the highest-paid boxer since Floyd Mayweather against Conor McGregor in 2017.

On the other hand, there has been no news regarding Terence Crawford and his payday. But if Canelo’s payday rumors hold any truth, we can safely assume that even he is going to earn nine figures, making it the most expensive fight, at least for this decade.
