Legendary Boxer Julio Cesar Chavez and His Son to Fight on the Same Card

Three-weight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez will make his return to boxing in an exhibition bout. He will face Jorge Arce for the third time in a four-round contest.

Chavez’s son, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., will also fight on the same card against the undefeated, Mario Cazares. The bout will take place on September 25 at the Grand Hotel in Tijuana, Mexico.

Julio Cesar Chavez (107-6-2, 86 KOs) is regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of all time. During his career, he has held multiple titles ranging from the WBA and WBC lightweight titles to WBC and IBF light-welterweight titles.

He has held the Ring magazine and lineal lightweight titles, and the lineal light-welterweight titles as well. Over the years Chavez has taken part in many exhibition bouts since his retirement, having faced his next opponent Jorge Arce twice already. Both contests were won by Chavez.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and what to expect from the card

His son, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (51-4-1-1, 33 KOs), is the former WBC middleweight titleholder. His last fight was against Daniel Jacobs where he lost by corner stoppage.

This had caused a lot of controversies as Chavez Jr. refused to get back and fight after the fifth round. He stated his inability to breathe as the reason for quitting.

Chavez Jr. will face Mario Cazares who has a perfect professional record (11-0) with 5 knockouts and will look to hand Chavez Jr. his second loss in a row.

The father-son duo will fight together on the same card for the very first time. This will be an exciting show to watch, knowing both of them will try to outperform the other.

With Chavez’s years of experience, and Chavez Jr.’s being in his physical prime, it will be interesting to see what both fighters bring to the table.
