Leigh Wood Ruthlessly Demolishes Opponent; Sending Him Falling Outside the Boxing Ring & Into the Hospital

The Nottingham Arena witnessed by far the biggest event of the year 2022. The action-packed clash between the British stalwart Leigh Wood and the challenger Michael Conlan on Saturday night of March 12, turned out to be the sick rumble.

In the mandatory fight, the WBA featherweight champ kept the throne heroically by stunning the boxing world through the way of brutal knockout that sent the undefeated challenger off the ring from the ropes in the final round.

The right cross was so lethal that it sent the Irish warrior into the cold state and later he was taken to hospital on a stretcher.

 

However, the Belfast boxer is all right. He uploaded a video from the hospital and gave an update on his condition. He said, “I’m all good, I’m just getting checked up in the hospital. The CT scan is all clear. Congrats to Leigh Wood, congrats to his team, that was the best shot of the night he got me with at the end.”

Moreover, the appetite to be a champion inside the Olympic bronze medalist has demanded a rematch.

How did Leigh Wood survive the initial knockout?

To everyone’s surprise, the challenger stole the initial show. In the very first round, he sent the champion on the floor with a well-crafted left hook on the chin. That clarified that it will not be an easy go for the British boxer.

Unable to find an answer to the left hook of ‘Mick’, it took several rounds for the champion to recover. In the later rounds, ‘Leigh-thal’ fought back all guns blazing. As the bell went deeper, the fight became more thrilling and bloody.

The 33-year-old showcased a heart of spartan as he gave everything that was there inside him. He knocked out ‘Mick’ in the 11th round to keep alive the chances of winning as he was lagging on the scorecard.

And finally, he forced the spectators in the jam-packed arena to stand on their feet when he clinched the far-going title with a cold knockout.

Notably, the champion showed concern for the opponent and denied celebrating. He said, “I just hope Michael is all right; I can’t celebrate until I know he is all right.”
