Multi-weight title-holder Leo Santa Cruz came across his worst fate in a professional outing when he squared off against Gervonta Davis in October 2020. The Mexican pugilist fell prey to Tank’s KO-power and got stopped in round six in a high-light reel fashion. It was Santa Cruz’s second pro-loss and the first via stoppage.

‘El Terremoto’ started strongly and could trouble Davis for the first few rounds. However, that didn’t help him to a great extent. While it’s been over a year since that fight, Leo Santa Cruz freshly looked back at the matchup and dropped some bombarding revelations about Davis’ power.

In a chat with Brian Custer, Santa Cruz said, “I wasn’t really feeling Tank’s power. I don’t know why but he just caught me. But you know, I was feeling comfortable and if I could take Tank Davis’ power in the first few rounds. And I think you know, I can compete against anyone now. So, I got more confidence and you know I want to go back there and fave the best.”

Following the loss to Gervonta Davis, Santa Cruz went into a year-long hiatus. After more than 365 days, he is back to face Keenan Carbajal in the card of Keith Thurman vs Mario Barrios on February 5 at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

As of now, Leo Santa Cruz holds an active record of 37-2-1, with 19 KOs in his favor. He was on a five-fight win streak before suffering the scratchy defeat against Davis. As it’s his time to revive that track, a potential victory will bring him back to the title race.

Can Leo Santa Cruz regain his lost dominance?

The nearing collision between Santa Cruz and Carbajal will be a 10-round contest held in the super featherweight division (130 lbs). Akin to Santa Cruz, Keenan Carbajal has also been a top-rated fighter. He holds an active record of 23-2-1 and will have a legitimate height advantage over Santa Cruz.
