While Virgil Ortize Jr. was fighting Fredrick Lawson on Saturday night, there was a storm brewing just outside the ring. In a surprising twist, a physical altercation broke out between Bill Haney and Bernard Hopkins. The latter currently serves as the co-promoter for Ryan Garcia alongside Oscar De La Hoya, and Bill manages his son Devin Haney. Both parties have been involved in a battle of words, which gave birth to their disagreement.

Not so long ago, Ryan decided to sidestep Haney to fight Rolly Romero in his next bout, contradicting what they had discussed publicly before. So, Devin’s father was discussing the matter in an interview with Fight Hub TV when Hopkins appeared out of nowhere, igniting the unexpected clash.

Bill Haney claims he has no respect for Ryan Garcia

During the interview, the reporter questioned Bill about what was going to happen for Haney since Garcia backed out of the fight to pursue a clash with Romero. Bill responded, “We don’t know what’s going to happen with Ryan. We know that he raised his hand. I thought I had respect for him. Maybe he’s not what they say,” Haney said. That’s when Hopkins walked in and asked Bill to follow him to the bathroom.

“Let’s go to the bathroom. I have got to talk to you in the bathroom for a minute,” said Hopkins. In response, a stunned Bill could not understand what was happening, but said, “I am right here. You talk where you want to talk at.” He further added, “I don’t know if he [has] been in jail too long…but guess what, we get out where we get mad at.” While the actual alteration wasn’t recorded by Fight Hub TV, someone else had their camera ready.

Bernard Hopkins pushes Bill

From another angle, Elie Seckbach was ready with his camera. After Hopkins had asked Bill to meet him in the bathroom, Seckbach caught the exact moment when Hopkins pushed Bill, surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of fans. After the incident, Bill was pumped up on adrenaline as he spoke about the situation.

“That’s nothing. Just like I said, for all the dads around the world, you’re not gonna be bullied by Bernard Hopkins or nobody. I got the best fighter in the world, and I’m here to represent. He told me to follow him. Did he not tell me to follow him? And didn’t I follow him? Where’d he want me to go? I’d go to hell and jail for Devin Haney,” said the defiant father.
