In his prime, International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, was considered one of the most daunting fighters in the middleweight division. Recently, podcaster Joe Rogan spoke about the sheer dedication that Hagler exhibited during his training camps.

Rogan was hosting his ‘Joe Rogan Experience‘ podcast. Moreover, UFC light heavyweight contender Khalil Rountree was the guest for the episode.

In conversation, Rountree was talking about his training camp experience and about making time for his girlfriend while training.

Rogan responded by mentioning how boxers are divided on family time during training camps. He said, “That’s the thing about camps and fighting, It’s like there’s like two different schools of thought, some guys are comfortable with their families. “

He then spoke about how Hagler was on a whole another league altogether when it came to training camps. Rogan said, “And then there’s guys like Marvin Hagler, who used to go to Cape Cod during the wintertime. He didn’t see some of his kids getting born.”

Rogan further delved into Hagler’s dedication, saying, “He was just there training, and wouldn’t like talk to anybody. You know he put a hat on that says ‘War’, He would just train like a f***ing wild man.”

This dedication is what made Hagler a true behemoth in the ring, In fact, this sheer drive was what earned him a position as one of boxing’s legendary ‘Four Kings‘.

Joe Rogan’s love for Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Rogan’s admiration for Hagler extends well into his childhood days. In fact, Rogan had made an artwork documenting one of the former champ’s knockout punches.

The beautifully made artwork was drawn in 1983 when Rogan was 15. It depicts the showdown between Hagler and Tony Sibson, that took place on February 11, 1983.

In particular, Rogan chose to illustrate the exact moment when Hagler knocked out Sibson in the 6th round. Moreover, in the caption, he also spoke about how much he adored the former champ.

The imposing figure of the late champ is sure to stay alive in the hearts of boxing fans worldwide.
