Errol Spence Jr. suffered a devastating loss against Terence Crawford in July this year. Not to mention, Crawford tarnished Spence’s perfectly undefeated record. Spence took the loss on the chin and activated the rematch clause in his contract. But is that the right next move for Spence? Mike Tyson, a legend of his time, doesn’t agree with Spence’s move to fight Crawford next.

After Spence suffered a lopsided defeat against Crawford, Barry McGuigan claimed Spence should retire, as per a report from Boxing Social. While appearing in an interview with ESNEWS, Mike shot down the talks about Spence retiring from the sport. However, he claimed Errol Spence should not be fighting Crawford right now. Instead, Mike advised Crawford to fight somebody else.

Mike Tyson revealed a devastating upset

In the interview, Mike emphasized one name in particular that Spence should be fighting next. The name was Jermell Charlo. He even recounted his own experience when he suffered a massive loss. While comparing Spence’s loss to Crawford with his own loss, Mike disclosed an incident from his boxing career. “Errol didn’t get his a** whopped worse than when I did with Buster and look at me. I came back,” Mike told ESNEWS. It’s worth noting that Mike Tyson’s first career loss came when he fought Buster Douglas.

In February 1990, Mike fought against Douglas with his titles on the line and lost. It was the biggest upset in the boxing community, as no one expected Douglas to win. However, Mike recovered quickly and won the next eight fights in a row. Mike believes Errol can do the same and return to boxing.

Terence Crawford teases rematch

Following Crawford’s dominating victory over Errol, the boxing world speculated what Crawford’s next step would be. In an interview with Joe Rogan, Crawford expressed his desire to go toe to toe with Canelo Alvarez. However, since Canelo did not seem interested in the fight, there was no clarity as to what was next for Crawford.

However, all that changed after Crawford’s interview with Travis Hartman. While appearing in the interview, Crawford confirmed the rematch with Errol Spence. The development came after Spence activated his rematch clause in his contract. The fight might take place somewhere in December. Although, there is no confirmation about what weight class the fight would take place.
