One of the greatest boxers of all time, Muhammad Ali, is always a matter of fascination among fans. He had an impeccable career of 56 wins against 5 losses (BoxRec) while competing in an era where the heavyweight division was filled with absolute ‘killers’. However, very few of the fans know about Ali’s personal life. In the midst, an old picture of Ali with his mother went viral on the internet. The picture was uploaded by a page named “Boxe au Menu”. In the picture, Ali was seen to be in a happy mood with his mother Odessa Grady Clay. After the picture surfaced online, fans went nostalgic for the celebrity and his mother.

Odessa Grady Clay was the mother of the great Muhammad Ali and Rahaman Ali. She was born on February 12th, 1917 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. She married Muhammad Ali’s father, Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr. in 1933 and gave birth to the greatest boxer, Ali in 1942. However, after living life as a domestic worker, ‘Ali’s greatest fan’ died at the age of 77 in Kentucky. Notably, Ali’s mother played a huge role in the success of Ali’s career and his life.

Muhammad Ali’s colorful personal life

Besides being the greatest boxer of all time, Ali lived a colorful life outside the ring. Muhammad Ali married four times in his life and had nine children. His first wife was Sonji Roi Ali, whom he married in 1964. However, the two got divorced within one year. He then married Khaliah Ali in 1967. The marriage faced a fateful end in 1976. Later that year he married Veronica Porsche in 1976. The couple gave birth to Laila Ali. However, in the later year, he married his long-time friend, Lonnie, in 1976, who stayed with him till his death. Ali also had children outside his marriage.

Out of his nine children, Laila Ali is the most prominent. Among his grandchildren, Biaggio Ali Walsh and Nico Ali Walsh, are the most well-known, and both of them are carrying Ali’s legacy further.
