Coming off from a horrific KO loss against Deontay Wilder in 2019, the 41-year-old still wants to dance against the best inside the ring. That said, he is just one or two victories away from getting back into the title race. While his upcoming fight will bring him a step closer to the goal, Ortiz wants to have a crack at Andy Ruiz Jr.

He has recently challenged Ruiz to fight him inside the ring. Meanwhile, Andy Ruiz Jr is also yet to be booked since losing to Anthony Joshua. Thus, the former title challengers can get back to heavyweight relevancy by locking horns against each other.

Talking about it, via an interpretor he said, “(I) want to fight the best. If that can happen, then (I) want Andy Ruiz, who was the best at one point, not too long ago by beating Joshua.”

He added, “Andy was supposed to fight on the same card as well and maybe the winners of tonight were going to fight each other and that’s what potentially was being built up to. Andy didn’t’ participate, so yeah Andy Ruiz is the fight that (I) wants and it’s the one that’s most attainable, it’s the one that can probably really happen without too much back and forth and that would be great. I think that would be a great fight”

Since Ruiz Jr has also teased his return by the end of 2020 or early 2021, he can warm up against Ortiz before challenging his former foe, Anthony Joshua.
