Top-tier lightweight boxer Luke Campbell has spoken out on Twitter via Michael Benson and shared his candid views on Vasyl Lomachenko. Chiefly, ‘Hi-Tech’ is the last opponent that Campbell fought back in August 2019. The British boxer fought for the WBA (Super), WBO, The Ring, and vacant WBC lightweight title against Lomachenko. However, he fell short on the judges’ scorecards.
The bout was a classic technical match-up and played out largely as fans and pundits expected. Campbell had moments of clear success where he maneuvered through Lomachenko’s patented movement. However, once the final round had expired, the general consensus came in that Lomachenko had done enough to secure the win. Furthermore, Luke Campbell exceeded the expectations of certain pundits who put tremendous stock in Vasyl.

Luke Campbell thrashes Vasyl Lomachenko
The 20-3 fighter had plenty to say about Vasyl, and it was clear that there’s no love lost between the two professionals. What’s more, Campbell sounded off on his fight against ‘Hi-Tech’ and was of the belief that he forever changed Lomachenko. Luke Campbell is of the view that Vasyl is a changed man and that his recent fight against Teofimo Lopez proved that.
Luke Campbell: "I said to everybody after the Lomachenko fight that Lomachenko won't be the same. I said I put a big dent in Lomachenko that night. He didn't throw a punch for seven rounds [against Lopez]. I wish that Loma would've turned up for my fight." [@SkySportsBoxing]

Vasyl Lomachenko lost a lot of momentum when he fell to ‘El Brooklyn Teofimo Lopez in Las Vegas. The unanimous decision loss went a long way in tarnishing his legacy in the eyes of the casual fans. Moreover, a reason for this perceived fall of grace could be that many saw Lopez as a stepping stone. Many casual combat sports fans undermined Teofimo’s skills in the bout and thought he was just a power puncher.

Teofimo ‘The Takeover’ handled this business in the cage and pushed through adversity, especially in the final round. Additionally, Lomachenko’s famed late-flurry and pressure have historically been enough to stop his foes in the past. Perhaps this change in circumstances has led to Luke Campbell’s recent statement.

Campbell certainly has his hands full as he’s gearing up the face Ryan Garcia for the interim WBO championship. The two had a booking to face-off on December 5, 2020; however, Campbell tested COVID-19 positive. Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn has come out and stated that the fight will be rescheduled and that Garcia won’t have a late opponent change.
