Former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney has been at the centre of severe backlash from the boxing world due to his performance against Jose Ramirez on May 2nd. In the meantime, boxing’s only eight-division champion, Manny Pacquiao, has come to save the day with his years of wisdom, as he shared an important boxing lesson with Haney.

During his May 2nd fight, Haney looked gun-shy and danced around the ring for 12 rounds, avoiding any sort of engagement just to land the occasional punch on Ramirez. Even the commentators of the fight were poking fun at Haney for putting the viewers to sleep with his boring performance.

Some went as far as to suggest that Haney hadn’t recovered from the beating Ryan Garcia gave him in their April 2024 fight, resulting in Haney being overly cautious in the boxing match. The fight was so bad that the fight set a record for the fewest punches landed in a 12-round boxing match in 2025, with a combined total of 110 punches landed (Haney 70, Ramirez 40).

To make matters worse, the fight also ranks as the fourth-fewest punches landed in a 12-round fight in the 40-year history of CompuBox. Regardless, while appearing in an interview with Fight Hype, as he started his training camp for his July 19 fight against Mario Barrios, Pacquiao reflected on Haney’s performance.

“How [do] you entertain the fans?” ‘Pac-Man’ asked the reporter. “Boxing became popular because of the support of the fans, of the people. So, make sure that the fans [are] satisfied [in] every fight that you have. That’s [the] balance. You cannot pay back all the sacrifices that you have [made], then the people are not satisfied.”

With Ryan Garcia’s loss to Rolando Romero on the May 2nd card derailing their anticipated October showdown, it remains unclear who Devin Haney will face next as he searches for a new opponent. Bill Haney, Devin’s father, has called out Teofimo Lopez for a boxing match, but Lopez is pursuing a bout against Jaron Ennis in the welterweight division.

Regardless, Pacquiao isn’t the only one who is offering advice to Devin Haney.

After Manny Pacquiao, Shakur Stevenson offers sound advice to Devin Haney

Following Devin Haney’s criticized performance against Jose Ramirez on May 2, WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson has weighed in with advice for the former undisputed titleholder. Having previously been linked together for a fight, Stevenson and Haney aren’t strangers to throwing barbs at each other, but Stevenson seems to have put their rivalry aside to share some advice.

Stevenson, who returns to the ring against interim title holder William Zepeda on July 12, believes Haney’s biggest obstacle isn’t physical—it’s mental. “I think that he just needs to get a little more confident,” Stevenson said. “If he gets his confidence back to 100% after what happened to him, you can tell he’ll be in a good position.”

That said, Manny Pacquiao and Shakur Steveson have laid out what Devin Haney needs to do to redeem himself. However, it’s yet to be seen whether ‘The Dream’ uses the advice or even gets the opportunity to do so. What are your thoughts on Pacquiao’s claims?
