After defeating Keith Thurman in 2019, the “People’s Champ” secured the WBA welterweight champion status. However, the WBA stripped Manny Pacquiao off his belt because of inactivity. At 42, the ‘Pac-Man’ will shoot for gold once again after a 25-month hiatus.

Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr – Biggest fight of the year?
While Pacquiao secured his last win over Keith Thurman nearly 2 years ago, Errol Spence Jr is coming into this fight after a dominant win over Danny Garcia in December 2020. Given that ‘The Truth’ is still well within his prime and has a longer reach, some think he could prove to be a real challenge for the welterweight “champ in recess”. Spence’s last opponent, Danny Garcia, sees this fight as a tough call and believes both corners could stop the fight in the earlier rounds.

“I think (Spence) can stop Pacquiao with a body shot. But I think Pacquiao can stop him too. I think it’s a 50/50 fight, I think that fight’s not going the distance. I’ve said this before in another interview. If the Pac-Man that showed up against Keith Thurman — that’s a dangerous Pacquiao. The Spence that fought Kell Brook can stop Pacquiao,” said Garcia.
Floyd Mayweather recently took a shot at Pacquiao by calling his decision to continue fighting pro-boxing athletes “sad“. However, the “People’s Champ” was quick to clap back at Floyd by saying that he is not like other boxers who just look to get paid. Pacquiao added that he only wants to compete with the best in the sport. Following his revert, ‘Money‘ has since agreed to help Errol Spence Jr prepare for his upcoming fight.

Even before fighting 32-year-old Keith Thurman in 2019, many doubted Pacquiao’s ability to counter a fighter in his prime; however, Manny Pacquiao put up a square contest against Thurman and ultimately won by a close split decision call. Despite the age and reach difference, ‘Pac-Man’, who looks like he is in the best shape of his life, is yet again looking to prove the naysayers wrong.
