In the realm of boxing lore, some tales are wilder than others! One such crazy story came to light today from Tony Jeffries. The former British professional boxer competed and won bronze medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics. However, in the span of his highly decorated professional career, only once did he encounter an incident such as this!

The former boxer turned to social media to unravel the details about, as he calls it, the “most expensive injury.” It was a massive cut above his left eye, which cost the Olympian a whopping $60,000. Here’s how the story goes!

Jeffries claimed he had just found a picture of himself with the gruesome cut and proceeded to detail the lore behind it. “In my 9th pro fight, I got head-butted, which gave me this nasty cut,” wrote Jeffries. Ironically, after suffering the illegal blow from his opponent, “I KO’ the guy around 15 seconds after,” wrote Jeffries. It’s worth mentioning that Jeffries fought Tommy Tolan in his ninth professional bout, winning it via second-round knockout.

Despite the win, however, the cut resulted in him getting 18 stitches over his left eye right after the fight had concluded. Speaking about getting the stitches, the Olympian didn’t paint a pretty picture of the doctor. “The stitches looked like they were done by Mickey Mouse. Maybe the Dr. was drunk,” wrote the former boxer.

He even suggested that after the wound had started healing, it created a lot of scar tissue around the cut. So, when he was preparing for his tenth professional fight in the US, “Every time this cut got tapped in sparring, it would start bleeding,” wrote Jeffries. He went on to reveal all the expenses he incurred due to that cut.

“I had to pay to have the scar tissue surgically removed, which cost me $4,000. I had to pull out of my fight, which cost me another $45,000! On top of that, my USA training camp cost me another $6,000,” bringing up the total to an even $60,000, Jeffries revealed. However, according to Jeffries, that wasn’t even the worst part.

Instead, the worst part was that “it was a deliberate head butt. My promoter told my opponent he would give him a contract if he beat me,” Jeffries wrote. It resulted in his opponent trying out every trick in the book to get the win, including the head butt. What’s more, Jeffries claimed, “he nearly did” win the fight.
