Mikaela Mayer Set to Challenge the Champion Ewa Brodnicka for the Super-Featherweight Title on the Naoya Inoue vs Jason Moloney Card

The 30-year-old Mikaela Mayer will get the first title shot of her career after three years as a pro against champion Ewa Brodnicka. The event will take place on October 31 on Top Rank’s Naoya Inoue vs Jason Moloney card.

The super-featherweight Title fight will be the co-headliner for the main-event between the three-weight world champion Naoya Inoue and challenger Jason Moloney. Inoue is the unified bantamweight champion and will look to make his third world title defense.

Mikaela Mayer (13-0, 5 KOs) is a former Olympian who turned pro in 2017. She has amassed a name for herself and proved to be one of the top fighters in the division. With this being the first title shot of her career, she will look to deliver on the biggest stage of them all. Her last bout was against Helen Joseph in July, where she comfortably won by unanimous decision.

Her opponent, Ewa Brodnicka (19-0, 2 KOs), is also undefeated in her professional career and is the WBO super-featherweight champion. She made her fifth consecutive title defense in a 10-round split decision victory over Edith Soledad Matthysse.

Brodnicka had recently signed an agreement to face the WBC titleholder Terri Harper, but will now face Mayer, who is the WBO mandatory.

This will be a step-up in competition for both the fighters. For Mayer, this will be her biggest fight to date in terms of what’s up for grabs. Her opponent, Brodnicka, despite being the champion, hasn’t faced a lot of high-level competition. Furthermore, it will be a maiden title defense outside her home country, Poland.
