Mikaela Mayer Wants to Follow Floyd Mayweather and Ben Askren’s Footsteps, Interested in Fighting “Famous Female YouTube Stars”

As YouTube boxing continues to thrive, WBO champion Mikaela Mayer appears to desire a celebrity matchup against a female Internet sensation that would put her in a similar bracket with Floyd Mayweather and Ben Askren.

In recent times, several professional fighters have walked down the path of exhibition boxing, and engaged in bizarre matchups that fans wouldn’t have dreamed of. However, YouTube boxing has garnered a lot of attention and money from non-fight fans, and hence, many more pugilists have expressed their interest in the same.

Although female combat is yet to witness such an event of massive caliber, Mikaela Mayer is ready to be the first one. The undefeated 130 lbs champion took to Twitter and searched for a female YouTuber to enter the ring against her.

She wrote, “Sh*** any famous female YouTube stars that wanna hope in the ring real quick.”

 

The champion also revealed the actual reason behind putting such a tweet.

Mikaela Mayer took a clear dig at the kind of money the YouTube stars are making. She even cheekily hinted that she would open a YouTube channel besides her fighting career. She also claimed that she cannot fight men legally. Furthermore, Mayer revealed that per her contract she cannot engage in exhibitions. Hence, a real fight against a celebrity could be her only way into the YouTube boxing trend.

Mayer is currently under Top Rank and has successfully turned out to be a big name. The 5’9” tall orthodox is also a world champion and has her mandatory defenses aligned.

The 30-year-old Mikaela Mayer is one of the finest prodigies in women’s boxing who has thoroughly evolved throughout her career and is a reputed pugilist of the era. Following a sensational run of 13 wins with five KOs included, Mayer fought for the world title against an undefeated Ewa Brodnicka in October 2020.

The high-voltage clash saw Mayer outpoint her rival throughout the 10-rounds and claim a lopsided unanimous win. It turned her into a world champion and helped her add a second title to her resume.

Before becoming the reigning WBO queen, Mikaela Mayer had won the NABF female super featherweight title on umpteen occasions.
