Recently, Mike Tyson joined Tommy Duquette, founder of FightCamp and renowned trainer, for a detailed interview on different aspects of the life of ‘The Baddest Man on Planet’.

While interacting, the most feared boxer reflected his school of thoughts on his boxing career, and growing fame after officially retiring from the sport. Interestingly, ‘Iron’ Mike recalled his training session for an exhibition fight against former pound-for-pound king Roy Jones Jr.

For the uninitiated, it is unbelievable that at the age of 54, ‘The Baddest Man on Planet’ threw a record number of punches.

He said, “Well, they counted as many as they can, and also they film it. Then they count it when they film them. But when I was training for my last fight, I threw more. Always trained, always there’s some egocentric. I gotta beat this record. I gotta beat this. I’d beat, even till I hurt myself. And that’s just that’s the good part of the ego, you know, pushing you to your highest potential. Sometimes when you struggle, your ego say.”

Further, he added, “Cause your ego don’t wanna push yourself, don’t wanna exert yourself. You have to suppress your ego and continue to move.”

Who won an exhibition bout between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr?

The highly anticipated fight between great stalwarts took place on 29 November 2020. It was branded as “Lockdown Knockdown” because the clash was live televised amid a global pandemic.

However, the fight went on to exceed expectations, as the speed and power showcased for over eight rounds of two minutes each were truly phenomenal.

‘Iron’ Mike crafted a remarkable combination of punches and started off as an aggressor. Chiefly, the former four-weight division champ in Jones Jr. started slowly but finished well, and the bout ended in a split draw on the judge’s scorecard.
