Mike Tyson Became a ‘Slave’ to Cus D’Amato Soon After He Contemplated Robbing the Legendary Trainer: ‘I Needed His Every Word’

Unlike other heavyweights, Mike Tyson was not a man of big stature. But his hard work and focus on the art of boxing for years made him a big success story.

‘Kid Dynamite’ might not be the biggest of boxers, but his personality was enough to instill psychological fear in the mind of opponents that were far bigger than him.

Under the wings of renowned promoter and trainer Cus D’Amato, ‘The Baddest Man on Planet’ channelized the raw energy to pave a way through impoverishment and become the youngest heavyweight champion ever.

Interestingly, in one of the best motivational speeches, ‘Iron’Mike recalled how he became a ‘slave’ to D’Amato early in his career.

While Tyson eventually grew to respect D’Amato, he was not of the same opinion when he met Cus at 12 0r 13.

The initial thought that was lingering in the mind of ‘Kid Dynamite’ was to rob the team of White Motherf***ers. But the Hall of Famer coach molded him into the most spectacular boxer.

‘Iron’ Mike revealed how Cus first taught him his motto and then how to box. Not only did Cus train Tyson, but also made him part of his family. ‘Kid Dynamite’ stayed at his trainer’s house.

He said, “I think to myself because I’m a rob these white motherf***er but he’s building my confidence. He’s telling me look in the mirror. Tell yourself how beautiful you are. Love yourself. This is your life right now.”

Further, he added how Cus taught him to learn from his reflection in the mirror.

He said, “This is he introduced me to the mirror. The mirror’s been my life ever since. And he just blew my mind. If you listen to me people are named their children after you. You know he made me believe that I was better than everybody. Which was wrong. I came here to rob these white people these stupid white motherf***er and then I became a slave to him. I needed his every word.”
