Mike Tyson Explains Why He Couldn’t Hurt Roy Jones Jr With His Iconic Combo

One of the most spectacular stalwarts of all times, Mike Tyson, was a revolution in the heavyweight division in the 80s decade. Under the mentorship of renowned promoter and trainer Cus D’Amato, ‘The Baddest Man on Planet’ became the blueprint of an ideal boxer.

His lightning speed with lethal power behind the leather terrified the ring for decades. Recently, in an online interview with a sports analyst Shannon Sharpe, ‘Iron’, Mike opened up on his homicidal punch combination. Which he was not able to land during his exhibition bout against former pound-for-pound Roy Jones Jr.

The 55-year-old stalwart said, “My mentor Cus D’ Amato taught me. But he’s pretty smart where he knows how to avoid punches and punishment very well.”

Notably, this right-hand body shot mixed with right uppercut was a fatal weapon in the arsenal of the prime Mike. The best part of this combination is that ‘Kid Dynamite’ was exceptionally well at landing this.

However, ‘Iron’ Mike praised the defense of four-weight division champ Jones Jr for resisting him from firing this knockout cartridge.

Moreover, Cus D’Amato, the father figure to the young Mike, unearthed the incredible skills inside his protégé. He made Tyson the youngest heavyweight champion in the history of boxing.

Decades after retiring from competitive boxing, the former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr locked horns in an exhibition bout. With no person in attendance because of the covid pandemic, the duo exchanged leather on November 28, 2020, at staples center in Los Angeles.

The battle was branded as ‘LockDown Knockdown’. However, the legends showcased the beauty of their hands for 8 rounds of two minutes each.

‘Iron’ Mike was aggressor. Though the fight did not go to its full potential, ‘The Baddest Man on Planet’ landed a few clean shots. He seemed younger than he actually was. However, ‘Superman’ played the role of a cool veteran. He excellently used the ring to avoid Tyson and maintain a good distance.
