Boxing legend Mike Tyson has always been an avid fan of professional wrestling. He even made an appearance in the WWE in 1998 after his boxing license was suspended following his infamous incident with Evander Holyfield. However, despite having no wrestling experience, ‘Iron Mike’ gelled in perfectly and also gave fans one of the best feuds of the year with Stone Cold Steve Austin culminating at that year’s WrestleMania.

Moreover, Tyson has also made appearances in several promotions years after his retirement. He recently made a guest appearance back in November as a commentator for an episode of AEW: Rampage. Tyson certainly has a lot of love for the sport and also revealed why so many people love professional wrestling.

Mike Tyson reveals the real reason why people love professional wrestling

In the latest episode of his podcast Hotboxin along with guest and WWE legend ‘The Undertaker’, Tyson shared his thoughts on the sport. He compared the sport to a ‘soap opera for men’.

According to him people formed relationships with the characters portrayed on screen and stated that this was the reason so many people loved the art.

You know why people love wrestling, keeping it real because it’s a soap opera for men. You know we get attached to those guys. Weguys. We want to know more about them. We stay in touch with them we get mad at them when they lose. You know we celebrate when they win it becomes a connection.” he said

Iron Mike certainly had an interesting take on the sport and dished out a hilarious comparison. However, this was not all as he went on to reveal how he cried after former WWE champion Bruno Sammartino lost his title after he reigned as champion for over seven years.

The former heavyweight champion also revealed that the WWE legend made him cry after he lost his title.

Tyson stated that Sammartino beat every opponent that was put in his way until he lost his title to Ivan Koloff.

I saw Bruno Sammartino ni**a. I was almost crying. Listen he defended the title, he beat everybody Don Leo Johantan, The Wolf Man then finally Peter Morales. He beat the Moon Dog Man, he beat them all.” said Tyson.

‘Iron Mike’ seemed to admire the WWE legend a lot which can be perfectly summed up by what he said in the podcast. Moreover, with Tyson always being intrigued by great champions and warriors of the past, Sammartino is the perfect example of what a champion is made of.
