Amidst the uncertainty, John Fury’s announcement has created a surge of excitement amongst fans. John even claimed that Mike has the best chance of beating “The Gypsy King”. In an interview with BT Sports Boxing, John Fury responded to a query about a possible fight with Mike. He said,

“Listen. I’d like to have a go. You know, at the end of the day, I named my son after him. It will be a good thing. But, I know one thing. He will be in no better shape than me. I’ve got the edge in shape because I’ve lived better, I’ve lived cleaner. Tyson is a great, great champion. And if anybody’s going to come close to beating him[Tyson Fury] in this era, that’s him.”

“Mike Tyson has got a better chance than Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. 53 or 54 years old. But, listen. I’d like to have a go because I’m big, and I’m strong, and I’m game. And that’s all you need to be.”

“He’s past his best”- John Fury says he will lock horns with Mike Tyson with Tyson Fury in his corner

Continuing about the hypothetical matchup, John said,

“He’s past his best. And me? The edge I’ve got is, I’ve lived right. I don’t drink, don’t smoke. I don’t do things I shouldn’t do. And I train every day! We’re not body beautiful! I look as fat as a pig but I can run 10-mile, no problem today. And I’m training all the time. And I’m fit and strong and game. So what? If he knocks me out, he knocks me out. Let’s put it that way. I’ll give [my] all. I’m not going to be afraid to get into the ring. I’m not gonna be beat before I start. Plus, I’ve got him[Tyson Fury] to train me. The best son in the world. With that kind of backing and that kind of team? I’ll get in with two Mike Tysons!”

Well, it certainly looks like John Fury is serious about fighting Mike.

Moreover, his claims about “the baddest man on the planet” having the best chance at beating Tyson Fury is something that many promoters would like to materialize. However, that conversation already took place. Apparently, matchmakers are not so invested in that fight.
