It has been almost a month since Mike Tyson made his underwhelming return to the boxing ring after 19 years. The ‘Baddest Man On The Planet’ fought against Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas, in front of 70,000 live fans. According to Netflix stats, almost 108 million people watched the fight live on their platform.

Despite the monumental turnout, the fight disappointed almost every fan, as the 58-year-old was a shell of his former self. He was like a passenger in the match and Jake Paul carried him after the first few rounds. It was a sad sight. To everyone’s surprise, right after the fight, ‘Iron Mike’ claimed that he had no regret with the fight and loved every second of it. However, it looks like reality has caught up with the legend who appeared in an interview with Fox Sports Radio and talked about the fight.

Mike Tyson’s regretful morning

Tyson sat down for a conversation with Steve Cavino and Rich Davis on their weekly show on Fox Sports on YouTube. While talking about the fight, the pair revealed that they were rooting for the Brooklyn native throughout the match. Furthermore, they wanted to know whether this fight, according to him, affected his legacy or not.

Tyson looked confused by the question as he admitted he “never thought about that.” Even during the build-up to the fight, the Baddest Man On The Planet revealed that he did not care about his legacy and just wanted to fight. However, things were different once the fight wrapped up. He accepted that a day after the fight, he was questioning his decision. He explained, You know the day after the fight, right after the day after I woke up, I told my wife why did I do that?”

Considering how the fight went, it was surely a regretful affair. Many fans were left wondering about Tyson’s reasoning for taking the fight. However, it looks like even the Brooklyn native does not know the reason as he just “don’t know what the hell goes on,” inside his mind.

Doing something without thinking much about the consequences is typical Mike Tyson behavior. The man has lived his life to the fullest without any inhibitions. Even accepting the fact that it was not a worthy fight is a surprise. However, the youngest heavyweight champion in history had quite a different opinion of the bout a week ago.

Grateful to be alive

A few days after the fight, Mike Tyson took to his Instagram to post several pictures of the event. The 58-year-old exclaimed that he had no regret for the fight and, in fact, was grateful for it. “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time,” wrote Tyson.

However, his appreciation for the fight also comes from the fact that he nearly died earlier this year due to an ulcer flare-up. He wrote, “I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.”

This was the first time that Mike Tyson’s children watched him fight live and for him, that was the biggest victory. He could not have asked for more and for him it, “is an experience that no man has the right to ask for.”

However, it looks like the legendary champion is coming to terms with the reality of the situation. While he is grateful for his health, he is slowly accepting the fact that the fight was probably a mistake. Hopefully, this realization allows him to stay away from the ring and not taint his legacy further. Because even though he is not worried about his legacy, his fans are.
