Mike Tyson recently joined Eddie Hearn on the latter’s No Passion, No Point podcast. The legendary boxer opened up on many things with the famous promoter. They talked about a much-touted potential super fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
“Iron” Mike referred to Fury as the fans’ fighter. He said, “Tyson Fury is the fans’ fighter. The fans are in love with him, he has the momentum now. In England, Anthony Joshua is a big thing. But Fury, he’s got the people now. That’s the truth. They’re following him like he’s the messiah.”
“The Gypsy King” Tyson Fury is quite the character in and outside the ring and is loved by fans all over the world. Fury is currently the two-time heavyweight world champion. He won the WBC heavyweight title after spectacularly defeating Deontay Wilder in February.
A fight with Joshua has been looked at ever since. ‘AJ’ holds his position as the biggest star in heavyweight boxing. But with time, Fury has grown on the fans. Mike Tyson believes Tyson Fury holds the fan-favorite position as of now.
Tyson also spoke about the current state of the heavyweight division in boxing. He believes the division is very exciting right now, and is contrary to popular belief of it being boring.
In response to Eddie Hearn claiming that there are some great fighters among the current crop at heavyweight, Tyson agreed wholeheartedly.
‘The Baddest Man on The Planet’ said, “I think there’s a lot of great fighters in the heavyweight division. Anybody who says it’s a bad division is jealous, this is an exciting division… I’d like to see these guys fight each other over and over again. They’re exciting fighters.”
The heavyweight division indeed has many exciting current fighters. However, due to issues of promotions and other complications, fans rarely get to see the best fighters fight each other as Fury and Wilder did twice.
