“After a defeat, you should do a couple of fights to get your feet wet. Conor, I think you should build your confidence up and go do what you do, win excitingly.”

Cejudo then asks Tyson, if McGregor should fight opponents on a lesser level since losing two of his last three fights. Moreover, he also suggested that McGregor should fight former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.

Tyson then complimented Ferguson and had this to say about him, “Well, that’s a tough fight, he’s a warrior, regardless if he loses. He makes exciting fights. It’s hard to beat that guy. … No big-time guy. Let him get three fights and build his confidence back up. Every fight, the opponent goes to a higher level.”

‘Iron Mike’ believes Ferguson could be a significant challenge for McGregor before he can move on to a higher level of competition.

There is no shortage of opponents for McGregor to consider in his return. He has been challenged by Michael Chandler and Jorge Masvidal in recent months. Also, he hasn’t been shy about calling out UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Ferguson, on the other hand, has lost his last three fights, recently getting knocked out with a front kick in the second round by UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler. In addition, Ferguson is 38 years old and past his prime.

But he is a former interim lightweight champion and was on a 12-fight winning steak before losing to Justin Gaethje in 2020. He seems like a great opponent for McGregor before he can face the top contenders or champions.
