Mike Tyson’s Reality Check for Fans Who Admire Him Despite Countless Controversies

Boxing legend Mike Tyson has been in a lot of controversies throughout his life. The former heavyweight champion was notorious for having altercations with almost everyone he met, especially reporters and media personalities who received the brunt of Tyson’s aggression. Despite this, ‘Iron Mike has countless fans and admirers who adore him even with the baggage he brings.

However, Tyson did give his fans a reality check and called them out for seeing things on the surface. Moreover, he even explained the reason why so many people still supported him despite his flaws, even introspecting how he affected the people around him.

Mike Tyson gives a brutal reality check to fans

In an interview with talk show host Graham Bensinger, Tyson claimed that people see him on television where he is portrayed in a false manner. According to him, the people who watch him on TV get so caught up in the image that is portrayed that they forget that he was a man with many flaws.

“You go outside and then people think you’re special because you’re on television and that’s the idiot box and when people see people on the idiot box people lose their minds and turn into idiots over the people in the idiot box. People see me they don’t look at me and think I’m all used up or everything you know.” he said

Moreover, he added that if a person was intelligent he would stay away from him. However, people were so addicted to television that they don’t realize the truth of the situation.

“If they’re smart they run the other direction cause I’m a mess your credit up I’m screwing everything up on you know might mess around give you a venereal disease all kinds of stuff but you just gonna keep on coming. All right so come on then I’m a sucker for pleasure too but you know if they were smart they would haul a*s the other way but they’re not smart because they’re addicted to the idiot box which I’m in on all the time you know. So I guess that’s the way it is” he added.

Tyson has the self-awareness to realize he is a flawed person. However, the people who admire him lack the perspective to see him as a flawed human, which is why he gave them a reality check.

A look into Mike Tyson’s controversies

Tyson has been part of many controversies but there are some that stand out from the rest. His most infamous in-ring controversy came against rival Evander Holyfield after he bit off a part of ‘The Real Deal’s’ ear. Outside of the ring, he had troubles with substance abuse, and marital problems and was even sentenced to prison in 1991.

Moreover, he was involved in a physical altercation on a JetBlue plane where he repeatedly threw punches at a passenger. Although, it was revealed later that this was due to the passenger harassing Tyson. Despite his controversies, ‘Iron Mike’ is still an idol among many boxing fans which he thinks shouldn’t be the case only highlighting the irony of his statements.
