Mike Tyson was just 21 when he avenged his idol Muhammad Ali by knocking out Larry Holmes in 1988. That was the fight that felt more like a personal mission than a title defense. And by the time he was only 23, Iron Mike had already racked up a jaw-dropping 37-fight win streak before tasting his first defeat at the hands of James “Buster” Douglas in February 1990. That level of dominance, speed, and sheer power at such a young age is why the nickname “The Baddest Man on the Planet” didn’t feel like hype. It was a fact! To put it in perspective, today’s heavyweight champ, Oleksandr Usyk, is 38 with a record of 23-0. Tyson did all that, and more. That’s how explosive and active his prime really was.
But like all great stories, Mike Tyson’s career took a turn. After a devastating fourth-round KO loss to Danny Williams in 2004, many thought it was time for him to walk away. Yet, in 2005 (at 38) Tyson stepped back in the ring to fight Kevin McBride, only to lose again. That seemed like the final chapter. Until, out of nowhere, 19 years later, Tyson returned at 58 to face 27-year-old Jake Paul. Though in the process, Mike Tyson got himself $20 million richer, for the Tyson fans, the fight was a difficult one to swallow, and the results even more so. So with Mike Tyson, you never really know what’s next. Or do we finally have our answer?
Ahead of the Fatal Fury event in New York, Mike Tyson, who is part of the fight analysis team, was seen in a short interview with IFL TV. As he was seen making predictions ahead of the Ryan Garcia-Rolly Romero main event, the reporter curiously asked, “Are we ever going to see you back in the ring, or is that it for sure?”

“That’s just it,” he admitted. However, he recounted how the first fight wasn’t planned either. It was simply born out of a casual conversation when he happened upon Jake Paul while on a vacation with his wife.
He recalled being in St. Barts with his wife when Jake Paul was also present on the Caribbean island. “One day me and Jake, I don’t know where it is, Saint-Tropez or St. Barts. We’re at St. Barts and my wife was sitting there, and he was here,” Mike Tyson recounted. As Tyson tells it, he asked The Problem Child, “You really want to do this?”
And Jake Paul, without hesitation, was in. “He said, ‘You do?’ ‘Yeah, let’s do this shit,'” Mike Tyson shared. He moreover added that his wife was right there as it all unfolded. And by the sound of it, even she couldn’t stop what was about to be set in motion. By the end of the evening, the two had decided to do it, and “we did it.”
But have you ever wondered what Mike Tyson’s wife really thinks about him stepping back into the ring at 58?
What’s your perspective on:
Should Mike Tyson keep defying age and expectations, or is it time to retire for good?

Mike Tyson is his own man
Mike Tyson’s wife, Lakiha “Kiki” Spicer, is officially done watching her husband take punches. At least that’s what Tyson’s son, Amir Tyson, believes. In an interview with The Sun, Amir revealed that his stepmother, who’s been married to Mike Tyson since 2009, has put her foot down when it comes to his boxing career. “I think he’s done,” Amir said. “My stepmom, she’s saying he’s done.”

But if you think that’s the final word, you clearly don’t know Iron Mike. Despite a lackluster showing in his bout with Jake Paul last November, Mike Tyson was quick to stir the pot after the fight got over. Instead of calling it a day, he called out Jake Paul’s older brother, Logan Paul, the same Logan who once went the distance with Floyd Mayweather in 2021. “I don’t know [if I want to do this again]. It depends on the situation … I don’t know, maybe his brother,” Mike Tyson said, hinting at yet another potential money-spinning matchup.
Of course, Logan Paul didn’t hesitate to respond with his usual cringy bravado, stating, “I’d kill you, Mike.” And Tyson? Cool as ever, simply replied: “It’s on then.” While fans may be divided, one thing is clear. When it comes to making his own decisions, Mike Tyson still calls the shots.

Even his son Amir admitted there’s no changing his father’s mind. “That chat would be a waste of time. He is his own man,” he said with a laugh. “If I say too much, he’d only tell me to shut up and remind me I’m not his dad. I can say my part, but he is the grown-up, and he will do whatever he wants,” Amir Tyson lamented.
So with all that in mind, do you think Mike Tyson should keep fighting at 58, or is it time to hang up the gloves for good?
