Mike Tyson Sends a Message to Gervonta Davis Ahead of His Fight Against Mario Barrios

Two-weight world champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is easily one of the biggest young stars in boxing right now. The undefeated American champion will now chase a third title in as many weight classes, and this has earned him high praise from legendary boxer Mike Tyson.

Davis will return to the ring after seven months out to face super-lightweight champion Mario Barrios for the WBO super-lightweight title. The pair will battle it out on June 26 in Atlanta. And ‘Iron Mike’ has sent ‘Tank’ a message.

The 50-6 boxer spoke to ESNEWS on YouTube. When asked about Gervonta Davis’ and his bout against Barrios, Tyson said, “I wish you the best man because you are the best.” He then proceeded to call him a ‘bada**’ fighter.

Thus, this message from Mike Tyson to Davis showed what he really feels about the young undefeated champion. The decision to fight Barrios was Davis,’ and this shows the elite mentality of the young champion, something similar to a young Mike Tyson.

Can Gervonta Davis emulate Mike Tyson?

Despite being one of the scariest men in boxing, Mike Tyson was never the tallest heavyweight. As a result, on many occasions in his career, Tyson’s opponents towered over him. This will be the case for Davis too, when he takes on Barrios. So can he emulate Mike Tyson and knock out a bigger guy?

Davis goes into the bout with a five-inch height difference and a six-inch reach disadvantage against ‘El Azteca.’ Thus, if he wants to knock him out, he will have to cut the distance with good movement and throw combinations to the body.

‘Iron Mike’ was famous for breaking down his opponents like this. And thus, if Davis wants to prove a point to the critics, he may have to draw inspiration from Tyson and put his opponent away. Only time will tell what strategy Davis adopts on fight night.
