Mike Tyson Slams Bob Arum’s Top Rank for Ineffectively Promoting Terence Crawford

WBO welterweight kingpin Terence Crawford has been out of action since defending his title against Kell Brook and despite an active force of matchups in the division, ‘Bud’ has been inactive for a long time. Although a showdown against Shawn Porter is in the works, it doesn’t take away the problems surrounding Crawford and his possible turmoils with Top Rank.
Before falling under terms, Crawford and his promoter Bob Arum had shared a difficult time. Top Rank chief Arum passed scratchy comments about promoting ‘Bud’ which almost saw a split up between the two. While the situation appears to have developed, Mike Tyson still ridiculed Arum’s stance towards Terence Crawford.
In a chat with BadouJack on HotBoxin podcast, Mike Tyson said, “They don’t know how to promote him. They don’t know how to showcase him.

“It’s his (Terence Crawford) job too.”
Crawford is a pound-for-pound great and undoubtedly one of the greatest modern-day warriors. But he hasn’t competed against the fighters of his status. The 37-0 record reflects several big names but not someone the fans have desired to see him go against. A unification showdown between Crawford and Spence Jr. was rumored to happen for a long time, but none of the champions expressed any interest.

However. Errol Spence Jr. has apparently gone for the bigger test and is now aligned to meet Manny Pacquiao in an electrifying contest on August 21. It left Crawford with very limited opponents available until WBO ordered him to fight Shawn Porter. Despite Porter’s elite-level stature, Crawford will seemingly remain a favorite in the bout. So, it’s still might not be the career-defining fight that Crawford is looking for.
Terence Crawford vs Shawn Porter- The welterweight blockbuster showdown
Top Rank Promotions holds a roster full of champions, including Terence Crawford. However, the giant promotion hasn’t really appeared to bring lucrative matchups for the 147 lbs superstar. Even now, WBO has mandated Shawn Porter for the fight against ‘Bud’ not his promoters. But the matchup can actually be a monumental event in Crawford’s career.

31-3-1 as a former world champion, Shawn Porter is a top-tier contender. So writing him off from the fight would never be an option. Besides, ‘Showtime’ justified his nickname by unleashing a gruesome performance against Errol Spence Jr. in 2019, which ultimately turned out to be in vain.
