How is Mike Tyson so fit and athletic? That was the question when ‘Iron’ became heavyweight champion at the age of 20. Now, at 59 years old, that question about Tyson’s fitness is relevant again. Actually, it has now become more prominent than ever. Why? Because he is rumored to take on Floyd Mayweather next year!

In his prime boxing days, Tyson stayed dedicated to a disciplined diet and training routine, which helped him knock out opponents inside the ring. Because of that same reason, ‘Iron’ found himself in shape at 58 to compete against 27-year-old Jake Paul in a boxing match last year. Thanks to his impressive food discipline that he’s still following it at this age.

Mike Tyson is sticking to his diet even at 59 years old

In an interview with the coffee and restaurant chain Hard RockMike Tyson played a game called “Bite or Fight,” where he was presented with different food preferences. He had to say “bite” to the food he eats regularly, and “fight” to what he doesn’t. When he was asked about crab legs, and oysters, Tyson said, “Bite.”

Then Tyson was asked about Oreos, to which he said, “On certain occasions. I would never eat it every day. I may eat it once, and then I may not eat it for another six months.” Here, the former heavyweight champ showed that although he maintains an overall clean diet with some really good food choices, he does enjoy a cheat snack from time to time. But even with his love for Oreos, the former champ isn’t a fan of popular snacks.

Going forward, when the host extended the list to Cheetos, tofu burgers, and Gushers, Tyson mostly showed resentment toward the unhealthy snack options. Finally, a question about a healthy kale smoothie came up, which he surprisingly rejected, saying, “Killer kale, I’m not a kale smoothie guy. No.”

So, that shows Tyson likes to follow a high-protein and moderate-carb balanced diet to keep himself fit in his 60s. However, there’s also a surprising fact about him that might sound unbelievable to many.

‘Iron’ once claimed to never have had coffee

Mike Tyson not having many cheat meals because of his years of discipline as a pro boxer is understandable. But his never having a sip of coffee in his life caught many by surprise. Most athletes and even regular fitness enthusiasts enjoy a cup before an intense workout, but when the former champ revealed that fact to Joe Rogan, his surprising reaction said it all.

In a 2019 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience (#1227), the UFC color commentator began the conversation by saying, “I can’t believe you never had a cup of coffee.” To which Tyson replied, “Never had a coffee, no! Just tea, never coffee.” With growing curiosity, Rogan asked again, “No one ever offered you a cup of coffee? You never went to Starbucks?” Tyson responded, “For some tea and some donuts.”

Although it’s been six years since Tyson revealed this surprising fact, he hasn’t mentioned whether he’s tried coffee since then. Ironically, though, he went on to open a coffee shop named Tyson 2.0, despite claiming to have never had coffee, proving that people can still dive into things they aren’t personally fond of.

That said, what do you think about Mike Tyson’s amazing diet as he’s pushing 60? Let us know in the comments section below.
