The 1970s and 80s were a golden era for boxing. A lot of talented boxers, like Mike Tyson, were making the sport increasingly interesting. Apart from the pugilists, there was one name who had a prominent role to play to popularise the sport, and that was Don King. The promoter is one of the greatest in his field, but his checkered past always draws him into trouble.

Recently, British boxer Daniel Dubois shocked the world by saying he is suing veteran boxing promoter, Don King. As per the 24-year-old boxer, King has not paid him his share of the purse from a fight. However, the veteran promoter denied the allegations by saying, “I’ve never not paid a fighter and this is certainly not the case here.”

On June 11th, ‘Dynamite’ faced Trevor Bryan; ultimately, the former prevailed through KO in the fourth round. Dubois was thus supposed to receive $1.4 million of the $3.1 million prize money. The fighter, however, asserts that King did not pay him.

As a result, he is suing Don King for an amount ranging from $463,274 dollars and $938,274 and not $1.4 million. The reason being Dubois is not sure whether or not the sanctioning fees for the fight have been paid.

However, legendary boxer Mike Tyson too once had similar issues with Don King.

When Mike Tyson sued Don King for stealing from him

Mike Tyson was ruling boxing in the 1990s, which certainly earned him millions of dollars from his fights. At the time, Don King was Tyson’s promoter, but their bond ended as ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ accused King of cheating him of millions.

Tyson sued King for a massive $100 million in 1998. Iron Mike won the case but received only $14 million. The legendary boxer even described an incident on his podcast, ‘Hotboxin with Mike Tyson’, when he got his hands on Don King.

Tyson stated, “As soon as we stop, I’m beating him in the car (Don in the front seat). I’m trying to get the girl in the front seat to hold him so I can get him in the front seat so he can’t run because I couldn’t (hit) him the way I wanted to.”

Furthermore, the former champion explained that King left Tyson, his girlfriend, and his friend on the freeway and left.
