“Moton’s Definitely Not Lomachenko”: Eddie Hearn Disappoints Floyd Mayweather by Shutting Down Possible Fight Between Leigh Wood and Curmel Moton

In a recent interview, the renowned boxing promoter Eddie Hearn illuminated the promising future of Curmel Moton, the protégé of legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. When asked about Moton’s potential, Hearn acknowledged his talent but stressed that he is not Vasyl Lomachenko. Hearn went on to mention that Moton will have to wait his turn, before getting to fight against Leigh Wood. Although Mayweather aimed to have Leigh Wood fight Moton in his pro debut but his plans didn’t progress as intended and the match never took place. Subsequently, Moton made his victorious debut against Ezequiel Flores.

Now, After Leigh Wood’s historical win against Josh Warrington, Wood quickly came up on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s radar again, and Curmel Moton aims to face him in a title match. Earning a championship title is no simple feat, and not every fighter can boast of achieving this significant milestone. In the case of Curmel Moton, however, Floyd Mayweather expressed unwavering confidence in his ability to accomplish this feat, even setting his sights on having his young protege achieve it in his very first title bout.  Hearn expressed optimism about Moton’s future in the sport, hinting that he might earn a title shot someday.

Moton, under the guidance of Mayweather Jr., has been making waves, catching the attention of fans and experts alike. During a recent conversation, someone asked Hearn about his thoughts on Leigh Wood and the possibility of a bout against the 17-year-old fighter. Eddie said, That Moton’s definitely not Lomachenko.” He urged. “He’s obviously got some talent but Leigh Wood’s moving to Super Feather now. Maybe even rematch Josh Warrington maybe. Fight Joe Cordina. But maybe Moton one day.”

Hearn emphasized that although Moton may not possess the same level of experience and reputation as Vasyl Lomachenko, he is undeniably talented. This recognition from a seasoned promoter like Hearn speaks volumes about Moton’s potential in the boxing world.

Looking ahead, Hearn revealed some intriguing possibilities for Leigh Wood. The British boxer is set to step into the Super Featherweight division, exploring new challenges and opportunities. 

Floyd Mayweather Jr had high hopes for his protégé, Curmel. He aimed to have him face the WBA featherweight champion, Leigh Wood, in his first professional fight. However, Wood, a seasoned two-time world champion, declined the offer, considering it impractical to fight a 17-year-old newcomer. Moton made his professional debut against Ezequiel Flores, winning in the first round. Despite Wood’s reluctance, Moton still desires a match with him. Wood, fresh from a knockout victory, is unlikely to accept the challenge. Nonetheless, Moton remains undeterred and plans to return to the ring in November. 

Eddie Hearn recognizes greatness. While it is uncertain when a bout between Curmel Moton and Leigh Wood might happen, one thing is for certain, as long as Eddie Hearn believes it will happen, it will happen.
