The five-division champion Floyd Mayweather is arguably one of the greatest boxers to have ever stepped inside the squared circle. Not only a great athlete, but Mayweather is also a wealthy athlete who earns millions of dollars for his fights. Hence, earning the name ‘Money’ Mayweather.

However, there’s a long story behind the arduous journey of going from rags to riches which Mayweather detailed when he joined the world-renowned comedian and actor Kevin Hart for his Cold As Ba**s interview.

Floyd Mayweather talks about his journey
‘Pretty Boy’ has amassed an enormous amount of money through his fights, as well as his other business investments and endorsements. However, this wasn’t always the case. Like many athletes, Mayweather comes from humble beginnings.
He told Hart that there were 7 people living in a one-bedroom apartment in New Jersey. Additionally, he explained his family’s background, about his father and mother. He elaborated his dad was a hustler and a former fighter while his mom was working extremely hard.
Mayweather further explained why he became the man he was today. He said, “I didn’t get involved in boxing for the fame. I wanted to put my mother in a great position. So that’s what I did. I saw my mother working in a nursing home. She was barely making ends meet and my dad was in prison, I rolled the dice.”

However, things took a turn for the better, as Mayweather got a call during the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta. He said, “I got a call from a company in Las Vegas, Top Rank, I went out there. They instantly cut the six-figure check, and probably in a year and a half, I was a world champion.”
How rich is ‘Money’ Mayweather?
The undefeated boxer is one of the richest athletes in the world. The legendary boxer claims to be worth $1.2 billion. Additionally, according to Forbes, he has earned $1 billion in prize money for his fights alone.

The 50-0 boxer doesn’t just splurge his money out, he is actively involved in charity as well. He started the Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation and is also heavily indulged in various other foundations.
