The world of combat sports is a realm of never-ending possibilities, where anything can happen at any time. It’s been a decade since Floyd Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao in the Fight of the Century, which generated a 4.6 million buy rate, making it the most lucrative boxing event ever. Now, after all those years of creating history, both legends might be on their way to collide once again in 2026.

Recently, The Ring’s senior insider Mike Coppinger announced during the Inside The Ring Teaser segment, “I am hearing from reliable sources that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, yes, more than ten years later, a rematch is being seriously discussed to take place next year on Netflix. I think there’s a real possibility this is going to happen.” And that’s how the reveal got the entire boxing world’s attention.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to win the WBO welterweight title. Since then, both have had their fair share of clashes inside the ring. But during all that time, neither of these legends actually engaged in a rematch, snubbing the boxing world of seeing that highly anticipated bout once again. Still, they’ve continued their boxing careers in different ways, keeping themselves active in the sport.

Also, in recent years, ‘Money’ has shifted more toward influencer and exhibition boxing, facing internet personalities like Logan Paul, KSI’s brother Deji, and John Gotti III. Meanwhile, ‘PacMan’ made his anticipated return after four years against Mario Barrios for the WBO welterweight belt this year and, at 46 years old, took the fight to a majority draw. Both fighters have proven that there are still punches left in their arsenal.

Hence, Netflix wants to bring these two legends back to face each other once again in an anticipated showdown. However, while Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, the fight would surely steal some eyes if it gets the nod soon. Yet, there are still fans who aren’t too thrilled to see that fight again, especially at this stage of their careers.

Fans react to Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao Netflix event being in the works

One fan quickly chimed in and wrote, “This sh—t starting to feel like a joke.” The user didn’t actually explain the reason for the frustration, but it can be assumed that both legends being far past their fighting primes has hurt the excitement. The next reaction seemed to confirm that, as another fan commented, “Nobody wants to watch two old men fighting.”

Currently, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is 48 years old, almost touching 50, while Manny Pacquiao is just two years younger at 46. And that seems to be a big factor when boxing fans judge how a fight like this would go. Since both fighters are way past their prime years, one fan couldn’t help but highlight that it’s still watchable, but not exciting anymore, writing, “I’ll watch it obviously but NO THANKS! They’ve had their time.”

Then a fan in disbelief wrote, Won’t believe it until I see the two of them in the ring.” The fan’s concern makes sense, considering how often these kinds of legend fights get hyped up but never actually happen. Another user also pointed out how both fighters might just be joining Netflix to cash in on an easy payday, saying, “Everyone is taking advantage of the Netflix bag. We definitely don’t need to see this fight again, but we’ll still watch it.”

Lastly, a fan rightfully wrote, “It’s too late, should’ve fought when y’all were in your prime anyway.” That’s true. Floyd vs. Manny 2 during their prime years could’ve broken most of the records once again. But in 2026, it’s fair to say the fight won’t carry much relevance, as it’ll likely be another exhibition bout. One user didn’t seem to mind that at all, adding, “If it’s an exhibition match, keep it!!!!”

That said, as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao both look to make a comeback, do you think their fight would actually be competitive, or lackluster? Let us know in the comments below.
