However, before the fight, there was a surprise for combat sports fans as Silva’s former rival, Chael Sonnen, also got involved in this event. Sonnen hosted the pre-fight press conference for the event and met Silva after a long time. He went on to share his experience as well in a video on his social media page. Sonnen gave his insights about what it was like to meet his former rival after years of not talking to each other. This was a little odd for fans. The former title challenger had been critical of Sliva’s wife during their rivalry.

Sonnen had taunted Dayane Silva before his bout against ‘The Spider’ at UFC 148 with jokes about “patting her on the a*s” and having her fix him a “medium rare steak.”He even went around UFC events wearing a t-shirt with the words “medium rare” written across the front.

Fans react to Chael Sonnen’s video on Anderson Silva

One fan stated that Sonnen did the right thing by making his peace with Silva after all these years. He claimed that it’s good to understand when one might have taken things too far as Sonnen did with Silva’s wife. “It’s never a bad thing to make peace and gain closure. You did the right thing. I’m sure a lot of us can say we once took something too far, so I can understand.” he wrote.

Another fan hilariously stated that Sonnen should go to Silva’s next barbeque party. “You need to do a Bad Guy Inc from a BBQ with Anderson.” he wrote. However, one fan pointed out one of Sonnen’s previous comments he made on the ex-wife of another one of his rivals, Tito Ortiz. He stated that Sonnen was hypocritical in his video, although it did make him laugh. “Never talk about a man’s wife. ???
Tito Ortiz.? OK wasn’t his wife, but wow. Made me laugh but very uncomfortable, to say the least.” He wrote.

Even though the two might have been fierce rivals, it looks like they have set aside their differences. Moreover, Sonnen was known to play the character of the villain during his time in the UFC. He usually did not mean anything personal, he said during the build-up to his fights.
