Undisputed female light middleweight champion Claressa Shields made history after beating Savannah Marshall. The pair headlined an all-women’s boxing card, which was historic in its own right. Shields won via unanimous decision, becoming the undisputed champion at middleweight for the second time.

However, despite winning unanimously, many felt that the fight was much closer than what the scorecard reflected. This included Marshall’s trainer and the uncle of Tyson Fury, Peter Fury, who thought that the fight could have gone either way. Although he praised Shields for winning the bout, he stated that scoring 7 rounds in favor of Shields was not justified. “Claressa’s got the win and very best of luck to her. There’s no problem in coming up short in a fight like this. And what I will say is the score 7-3, I thought, was ridiculous. You know, I thought the fight could’ve went either way.” he said.

This seemingly garnered a response from the GWOAT herself as she addressed Fury’s concerns on social media. She stated that Fury need to rewatch the fight and claimed she was beating Marshall on the ropes and at least won five rounds.

Although Shields claimed she won five rounds, the judges gave her seven out of ten. This only goes to show how close the fight was. However, many feel that Shields did have the edge over her rival, albeit a small one.
