Three-division world champion, Gervonta Davis recently proved himself as a formidable force in the lightweight division with a highly anticipated showdown against Ryan Garcia. Davis took Garcia down via a TKO with a brutal left to the body in the seventh round, thereby cementing his position on the pedestal. Meanwhile, the fight also shared a very eerie similarity with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao‘s fights.

Pacquiao faced Ricky Hatton at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, on May 2, 2009. The fight titled ‘The Battle of East and West’, saw the duo fight for the IBO and The Ring light welterweight titles.

In the second round, Pacquiao downed Hatton with a devastating left hook. Notably, he led with a right jab followed by a brutal left hook to the jaw. This, in turn, rendered Hatton unconscious before he hit the canvas.

The scene was startlingly similar to the second round in Davis vs Garcia. ‘Tank’ had knocked Garcia down in the second round of their fight. Even more interesting was the fact that Davis used the very same technique in accomplishing the same.

However, unlike Hatton, Garcia quickly got up from the knockdown. And, continued fighting until a body shot took him out in the seventh round. Additionally, this fight also had the fifth-largest gate earnings in Las Vegas history, raking in a whopping USD 22.8 million.
