Right from the onset, Haney had one goal of becoming a two-division champion. For that, the undefeated boxer vacated his titles and put everything on the line. Despite being labeled as a soft puncher by many, the San Francisco native showed Prograis his raw power to capture the WBC title. Nothing showcases that better than the numbers from the fight itself.

Regis Prograis never stood a chance against Devin Haney

Even though Prograis is the brawler among the two, Haney kept Prograis at bay with his precision counterpunching. Besides the first round, Haney effortlessly stole all eleven rounds from under Prograis’ nose while maintaining distance and pressure. What’s more, after the fight even Prograis had to acknowledge Haney’s power. “His power did surprise me. I thought he was a soft puncher,” said Prograis.

If the final scorecard doesn’t make Haney’s superiority abundantly clear, the sweeping right hooks and the swift counter-punching from Haney definitely should.

What’s more, Haney landed 35.1% of his total punches & 46.5% of his power shots. Meanwhile, Haney’s movement and agility limited Regis to a mere 36 total connects. What’s even worse is that it comes after Edwin De Los Santos’ 40 punches against Shakur Stevenson. On a separate note, now that Haney has proved his worth in the super lightweight division, one question remains – who should he fight next?

After his surprising win over Josh Taylor, ‘The Takeover’ is perfect for Haney to further cement his dominance in the division. However, there is another fighter who is eager to prove his worth!

It’s none other than Ryan Garcia! The Victorville resident is also coming off a win against Oscar Duarte. Moreover, Garcia is pumped to fight Haney sometime in 2024. After Haney’s win, Garcia turned to X, congratulating Haney while calling him out for a fight. He wrote, “Haney is Good, no doubt, but I know him all to well, and I will beat him. Good stuff tonight, congrats, but this year, we are going to run it!!!”
